The Victims’ Bill Consultation was long overdue as this government can’t keep failing victims and letting criminals off the hook. Labour has been calling for a Victims’ Bill for six years, with five previous Justice Secretaries promising yet failing to deliver.

We know that the Government can get legislation wrong. We’ve seen it with the divisive Policing Bill, parts of which threaten the right to dissent and protest and attack our fundamental liberties as citizens. It’s so important that this new legislation truly puts victims at the heart of our criminal justice system and isn’t just another example to add to the Tories file of failure.
