Responding to the IRC 2021 Emergency Watchlist —

Statement:

“Conflict, COVID19, and climate breakdown have pushed the scale of need in fragile states and regions to terrifying new highs in 2020.

Humanitarian emergencies, such as Yemen and Syria, are on the brink of descending into irreversible decline, new crisis situations have emerged, and progress has stalled. The triple threats are compounding with health, social and economic disasters to create new waves of entrenched suffering.

The pandemic has shown how interconnected and vulnerable we all are to global challenges, which can reverberate around the world to devastating effect.

2021 must be the year the UK government ends the retreat from the global stage and instead unites and leads the global response to halt and reverse decline, because as Labour has argued without serious leadership the human suffering and crises we are witnessing now will become further entrenched and that threatens us all.”
