Thank you for your email about the rail worker Belly Mujinga and the circumstances surrounding her death from Covid-19.

I am aware that last week to the surprise of many people British Transport Police concluded that Belly’s death was not linked to an incident in which she was spat at while at work and closed the case without referring it to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

I am pleased that after the concerns expressed by many people about this very serious matter that British Transport Police have now reconsidered their decision in light of `the wider public interest’,  and have now asked the CPS to review the evidence in the case. The initial responses of the BTP do not appear to have matched the severity nor potential consequences of the incident to which Belly was subjected, and I hope that the review by the CPS will lead to this matter being properly investigated and concluded.
